Her Future COVID-19 Emergency Response

Like many of us, women and families are afraid of the unknown. Everything feels unstable and uncertain right now. During this global crisis, we’d like to share with you what’s happening on the ground in India and Nepal – and offer ways you can continue to help the most vulnerable and impacted during these challenging times.

• Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Nepal are in lockdown.
• Some of our team members have lost relatives due to the outbreak. Many have had or are currently sick with COVID.
• Schools are closed. Wherever possible, we are supporting remote education.
• Our Red Light Area Resource Centers are open for kids in the most urgent need, so they can continue their studies and be in a safe place, in small groups.

In order to protect our girls we've taken the following steps:

• Families living in slums and red light areas are in peril. We are using funds for emergency food and water distribution, and for a medical worker to check on families. The medical worker will distribute emergency medical kits with the basics such as Tylenol, thermometer, medical grade face masks for the family and hand sanitizer.
• Misinformation is rampant in these communities so we have a social worker distributing proper health information pertaining to COVID. While COVID tests are not currently available, when someone in the community does have symptoms, they are afraid to go to the hospital so they mask their symptoms, causing a wider spread.
• We continue to pay the salaries of women in our jewelry program, and to our entire staff.
• We are providing mental health support, by phone, to as many survivors as we can.

When women and families are hungry and desperate - the rate of trafficking increases rapidly. By providing the basics: food, medical kits, education & health information, we safeguard our girls in this moment of chaos and crisis.
