The Learning Center is a new project of Her Future Coalition - a multipurpose facility which will offer a variety of training programs, classes, support services and workshops to hundreds of survivors and vulnerable women and teens in Kolkata, India.

The purpose of the center is to bridge the gap between trafficking (or shelter care, or growing up in a marginalized community) and a successful life in mainstream society. We aim to give people the tools to heal from trauma, and to succeed in higher education and/or careers. Her Future will help women and girls move beyond the very limited options they have in slum communities, red light areas, and rescue shelters, to create their own bright futures.

Every woman and girl who comes to the center will receive training in basic computer literacy, spoken English, and financial literacy, as well as a social work assessment and counseling as needed. Beneficiaries will be able to choose between a variety of other programming according to their needs and interests, including:

• Literacy Classes
• Women’s Health Workshops
• Therapeutic Arts Workshops
• Tutoring and Mentorship
• Higher Level Computer Training
• Vocational Training and Job Placement Assistance
• Life Skills Training
• Human Rights and Legal Rights Workshops
• Trauma Informed Yoga and Meditation
• Environmental Education
• College Scholarships, Paid Internships

Up until now, Her Future's physical space in Kolkata has been extremely limited - limiting our reach. In early 2021 a longtime supporter, Todd Patkin and his family, made a commitment to MATCH $75,000 to cover the creation of our Her Future Learning Center - covering rent, utilities, staffing & equipment. As with all of our programs, the Learning Center will take a long-term, full circle approach with the goal of reaching as many women and girls as possible.
